Though true albinism with pink, eyes is exceedingly rare, state law nonetheless prohibits shooting two of the three deer shown in this photo, taken at an undisclosed location in northeastern Chippewa County. Albino or truly pigment-less deer have a recessive gene trait and are illegal to harvest under Wisconsin state law. Off camera and across the road, two other deer also displayed white fur and near albino traits within the split gathering, making four of the eleven deer present at the impromptu photo shoot effectively off limits for this hunting season.
