Tough week for Cross Country as team heads to away meet at Levis Mound

It wasn’t an easy week for Cross Country at Stanley-Boyd.

“This past week wasn’t easy but our team showed some good progress,” head coach Kyle Steenport shared recently. “On Tuesday, we ran at Levis Mound and just about all of our runners had their fastest time of the season. Zach Haas came in with a time of 18:49 and placed 10th. Candin Yeager showed a lot of improvement and shaved off almost a minute from his previous time. He came in at 21:31.”

As to the girl's side, Janelle Schesel fin ished 12th with a time of 23:25, while Adyson Gustafson almost cut two minutes off her Stanley time and ran for 23:48 in the 5000 meter.

“We had quite a few runners who did not run the night race meet so I’m looking forward to Tuesday at Cadott,” Steenport said of the Whispering Pines Golf Course Invitational September 20. “Breckin Burzynski will be back from an extended absence which will be great for us. All of our boys and girls will be competing so I think we should see some good progress.”

Saying that Cadott tended to be a fast course, and that the sectional would be there, Steenport said Cadott would “be a great test to see where we fall,” with results coming out after press time. This Thursday the Orioles travel to Spencer to run at Frey Field, which the team was looking forward to, he said.

“A lot of runners have been excited to run that course so it should be a good trip.”
