The Stanley-Boyd Track and Field team continued their season with standout performances at the Colby Invitational on May 12 and the Cadott Invitational on May 15.
At Colby, the Orioles girls team placed first while the boys placed third overall. Orioles head varsity track coach Robert Seidl said the meet featured several individual highlights despite a smaller field.
“At Colby there were not very many teams. Our times and distances were off,” he said. “Macie LaGrander won the long jump. Lula Chwala won both hurdle events. Jocelyn Hager won the 200 meter dash and tied the school record 26.35 (wind aided). She also won the Triple Jump.” Hager finished in first place with a jump of 34-09.
There were other strong performances as well.
“Mallory Alger had a PR in the Discus - 97’6”,” Seidl said. As for the boys, Jesse Allard won the boys pole vault with 10’6”, while John Smit placed second in the 3200 meter with 11:26.97. Beckitt Kohls took second in the 110 meter hurdles with a mark of 19.46, while the boys 4x200 relay team finished second with 1:46.07.
At Cadott on May 15, the girls team finished second overall behind Bloomer High School while the boys took sixth. Seidl said warmer weather helped produce stronger results.
“We finally had a warm night to run track and the performances were a little better,” he said. “The competition was tough and we didn’t win very many but placed well in most of the individual events.”
Hager won the triple jump at Cadott, while Chwala captured the 300-meter hurdles title. On the boys side, Hunter Gadke and Jesse Allard each cleared 11 feet in the pole vault for personal records.
“Lula Chwala won the 300 meter hurdles. Jocelyn Hager won the triple jump,” Seidl said. “Both Hunter Gadke and Jesse Allard jumped 11 ft in the Pole Vault for PR’s.” Other strong performances at Cadott include Mariah Wehling placing second in the 3200 meter with 13:33.65, while Lucy Wundrow took third with 13:39.19. Hager took third in the 100 meter with a time of 13.09.
Looking ahead to the conference meet at Fall Creek High School May 19, Seidl said the Orioles know they must continue improving to contend in a strong conference field.
“Although the girls ran well, we will need to see more improvements at the Conference meet,” he said. “Our Conference is just tough and a team needs to improve each week to keep pace. Bloomer looks to be the girls team to beat. We are approaching the Conference at Fall Creek with caution. The kids know what is asked of them. Hopefully we come through.”
