Track and Field goes to Medford

Following closely upon formal graduation, the Stanley Boyd senior class (two of which are pictured above) went with the rest of the team to Medford June 1, where Coach Bob Seidl said they will also have a Regional track meet.

“The boys team placed 1st, while the girls team placed 3rd,” Seidl said recently. “This (Medford) is where our Regional track meet will be against many of the teams we will run against,” he said. “We had a lot of PRs and I was impressed with the results.” Seidl said in addition that the track at Medford has been resurfaced, making the June 1 meet all that more valuable in terms of experience and practice for Regionals. As to June 1, these were some notable results.

Starting things out in the 100-meter dash, Jade Fredrickson ran a time of 13.04 seconds, while Marlynn Boetcher ran 13.59 seconds, both their best this year.

For the boys 100-meter dash, meanwhile, Chase Sturm ran 12.05 seconds to take second place, while Blake Mellor ran 13 second flat.

Ranging somewhat further afield, Cooper Nichols ran 23.65 second in the 200-meters

varsity finals, while Olivia Osvold ran 35.08 seconds for the 400-meter finals.

Notwithstanding the heat, meanwhile, Leslie

Derks ran a time of 5:57.84 in the 1600-meter varsity finals, her best this year.

“She ran well in the heat,” Coach Seidl said.

Moving from distance running into the pole vault, Travis Christoph came away from Medford with 10 – 06.00, Christoph’s best jump according to Coach Seidl and Stanley-Boyd’s strongest event. For the girls, meanwhile, Kailyn Schillinger came in with 8-06.00, winning in a

‘jump off’ according to Coach Seidl.

Stay tuned next week for more results.
