The Stanley-Boyd Track and Field regular season is fast approaching completion. Competing at Cadott May 16 and the Conference Meet at Stanley-Boyd on Monday, May 19, the Oriole now face regional and sectional competition before the State Track Meet June 6 at LaCrosse.
As for Cadott May 16, the boys team placed sixth while the girls placed fourth.
As for the Conference meet May 19, the girls team came in first place, while the boys were runner up to McDonell Central.
Orioles Head Track and Field Coach Bob Seidl shared his thoughts on the Conference meet outcome.
“The girls placed first in the Conference meet,” he said. “All Conference honors went to Lula Chwala, Macie LaGrander, Adyson Gustafson and Jocelyn Hager who won the 4x200 meter relay. The girls had a lot of depth, placing two athletes in almost every event. But we didn’t have enough top level performances to compete with teams like Fall Creek and Bloomer. We had a few personal records but needed to win a few more events to bring home a trophy. Our focus now will be on getting a few relays and athletes in the sprints and jumps through to the sectional.”
Of note for the girls at Conference was the aforementioned 4x200 meter relay time of 1:50.54. Also of note was a third place finish by Jocelyn Hager in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.82, a fourth place finish of 11:43.67 in the 3200 meter really by Mariah Wehling, Lucy Wundrow, Lilian Fitzl, and Haylee Shakal. Lula Chwala took third in the 300 meter hurdles, finishing in 48.78, while Syleen Seichter took third in the discus with 94-5 and Bea Bluhm took fourth in pole value with 7-6. The 1600 meter girls relay team took fourth with a time of 4:51.37, composed of Stella Chwala, Ariona Marten, Adyson Gustafson, and Koraline Pennala.
As for the boys at Conference, Seidl shared the following.
“The boys were the Conference runner ups to McDonell Central,” he said. We had a good chance to win it but were not able to get enough in the field events. We had higher expectations but didn’t follow through with better performances in the jumps and throws. McDonell had strong performances in the hurdles and triple jump and that made the difference. Madden Mahr was all conference in the 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash, as well as placing first in the 4x100 with Hodowanic, Brenner and LaGrander. We ran well in the running events but to win it all a team needs to be strong in Track and Field.”
Mahr placed first in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.01, and first in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.86. The 4x100 meter relay team of Madden Mahr, Carson Hodowanic, Cole Brenner and Jake LaGrander took first place at conference, finishing in 44.37.
Also of note from Conference was a third place finish 9:37.38 in the 3200 meter by Lyric Lamson, Cameron Natzke, Joe Broughton, and Elihu Krenzelok. As for field events, notable finishes include Jesse Allard with second in the pole vault at 10-6 and third in the high jump with 5-6.
The regular season over, Coach Seidl shared his thoughts prior to regionals at Bloomer on Tuesday, May 22.
“I think our Regional at Bloomer could very well be easier than our Conference meet,” he said. “The boys have a number of athletes that should advance to the sectional. Madden Mahr should do well in the 100 meter dash and Long Jump. The boys 4x100 meter relay and the 4x200 both have a strong expectation of doing well. We haven’t seen a few teams at the regional this year yet like Elk Mound and Mosinee so it’s hard to gauge team placement. I think we will be very competitive. Last year we won the regional and advanced a number of athletes to the sectional. That should be the case again.
“The girls look to also place better than the fourth place finish at the Conference meet. Our sprints, jumps and sprint relays are expected to do well. I look for a number of our athletes to advance to the sectional. Led by seniors Adyson Gustafson and Syleen Seichter, Juniors girls will also play a big part. Lula Chwala looks to advance in the 300 hurdles and Macie LaGrander in the Long jump and sprints. Freshmen Jocelyn Hager will also help the 4x100 and 4x200 sprint relays advance to the sectional meet.
“As for team placements the boys should be competitive as will the girls but it will take improvements and personal bests to go far in the tournament. We would like to get a couple of girls and boys to advance in individual events and both male and female sprint relays to be the brightest performances for Stanley Boyd.”
Pending results at Bloomer, Track and Field Sectionals for Stanley-Boyd are at Durand on Friday, May 30. There is a cost of $6 to get in.
