Looking to work wastewater?
The city of Stanley will soon post a position ad for wastewater operator, with starting wage of $28 per hour.
Acting at the Monday, Jan. 5, the council voted to terminate wastewater operator Nick Martin, following a closed session in committee of the whole that was ratified later in council. The move means Donohue will now be asked to make the necessary wastewater department submittals to the state, council motion to terminate Martin’s employment made by Alderperson Ben Wald, seconded by Alderperson Terry Metzger
“I move to terminate the employment of Nicholas Martin on the basis of job abandonment,” Wald said.
The city had previously stated that a public works employee had been put on leave for not coming to work, with city employees called to help out at the water plant last year as it faced issues.
Martin, hired from Thorp several years ago, was outspoken as the city faced water issues last year, appearing at council to ask how the city was going to address its water plant issues.
The city has since hired two new water employees and contracted with private firms, one to train the employees and the other to run the water plant for the present.
Following Martin’s termination, a motion was made by Wald and seconded by Alderperson Mark Fitzsimmons to post an employment ad for wastewater operator, at a starting wage of $28 per hour.
