Orioles girls varsity head basketball coach Ryan Wundrow shared more after results.
“It was really nice to get a win against a rival team like Thorp,” he said. “Conference wins are hard to come by in one of the toughest conferences in the state. Thorp plays with a lot of effort despite the score. We were able to play with the tempo that we wanted to and were able to get some easy buckets in transition. We had our highest offensive output of the year with 81 points. The girls have really done a great job of focusing on positives and eliminating negativity during practice and games. We are all going to struggle but when we have the right mindset we can focus on improving. I think we are all starting to understand that we are in charge of our effort, attitude and circumstances. The less we feel sorry for ourselves and the less we complain the better we become not only as basketball players but as people. I really commend the girls for having great coachable attitudes. Stella Chwalla, Caitlen Ketterhagen, Amanda Lew, and Alaina Nitz all scored in double figures. Ella Nitz played great interior defense and pulled down 5 boards and had 3 steals. Lula Chwala played some great defense and chipped in 6 points. Lucy Wundrow and Gracie Goettl knock down some threes. Olivia Overgard, Abby Weltzin, Ellie Steivang are freshmen that gained some valuable varsity minutes and were able to contribute to the win. We unfortunately have had some injuries. Vaida Chwala and Adasyn Charles-Richardson are unable to play right now but are doing their best to support their teammates.”
The Orioles now play McDonell on Friday, Feb. 13 at McDonell Central Catholic High School in Chippewa Falls. Game start is 7:00 p.m.
