The Stanley Fire Department was called out to a car engine near 555 South Broadway on Saturday, March 28 at 9:15 a.m. for a car fire.
“It was flames coming out of the engine compartment,” Stanley Fire Chief Ron Patten said of the car fire on South Broadway.
The car, owned by John Nelson of Wilson was totaled, with 600 gallons of water being used to put the fire out, which took one hour. No one was transported as a result of the call.
In more general fire news, the recent snowmelt has resulted in a locally raised fire risk, rising from “low,” to “high” and then “very high” on the Maple Street Smokey the Bear sign before returning to “high” as of Monday.
“Right now the DNR has everything marked at ‘high,’” Patten said of the fire risk. The reason is that the top is very dry, with area residents asked to be careful when outside burning, the fire department still issuing burn permits for now.
