Where there’s smoke, there’s….ribs!
The second annual Spring into Stanley event will be held Saturday, April 25 at Chapman Park, featuring the opening of the season Kansas City Barbecue Society Smoke & Fire BBQ contest, which features some of the best cooks in the upper Midwest competing for cash prizes and trophies.
That part of the event is organized by local barbecue expert Dean Tinjum of the Big 10 Bones Barbecue Team, who takes the day off to run the show before a busy summer on the road slaving over his smokers.
“We’ve got some of the best in the Midwest that will be here,” Tinjum said. “It should be a great day.”
Rib dinners at just $10 per meal will be available from noon-1:30 p.m.
The event teams up with the Stanley Lions Club and Stanley-Boyd FFA Alumni for a day of fun. From 9 – 10:30 a.m., Deck the Halls will have family projects in the Stanley Community Building. Caleb Brown will DJ from 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. At 1 p.m., there will be an auction featuring something for everyone. Rib cookers will compete in a baked bean contest from 2-3 p.m., and barbecue awards will be handed out from 3-3:30 p.m.
