Orioles fall to Bloomer in week’s play

The Oriole varsity baseball team played the Bloomer Blackhawks in back to back games last week, finishing 3-10 in the first and 3-20 in the second. Carter Weltzin batted in two runs in the first game, with Josiah Demske batting a run in for the second game. Several Orioles made hits in the bat to back game, with Dylan Robinson leading the Orioles with two hits in three at bats for the first game, with Josiah Demske making a double down the left field line and Weltzin struck by a pitch in the second, both earning a base. Brady Birky and Porter Goettl pitched for the first game, with pitchers for the second game including Landon Ewer, Demske, Grant Dusick, and Koebin Wundrow. The Orioles stole several bases without a single field error but were unable to overcome the Blackhawk’s momentum from runs in the second and third innings Thursday.
Oriole varsity head baseball coach Ryan Sturm reflected on the outcome after results.
“Last week is in the rearview mirror,” he said. “We took our lumps against Bloomer, but a team doesn’t dwell on the past—it learns from it. This week, as we prepare for McDonell and Gilman, our focus needs to be on getting better. The ‘guys’ are putting in the work, but now we need that work to be consistent. We can’t just be a team of ‘flashes’; we need to be a team of ‘finishers.’ Every rep and every drill counts because when you’re facing top-tier opponents, the margin for error is slim in our conference.”
