The Stanley-Boyd Schools Board of Education met Monday, June 22 at 7 p.m. in the high school library. Among items on the night’s agenda were spring state assessment scores, with elementary showing “huge growth,” especially in third grade. The biggest increase came in advanced reading, with reading achievement increasing from 51.8 percent advanced or meeting expectations to 67.3 percent doing so over four years. Fifth grade achieved 75.4 percent advanced or meeting expectations in reading assessment, the highest performance in the dataset. It was noted that kids are reading at a higher level than other ELA areas, pointing to a need to look at things like writing and grammar.
There was more good news though.
“In middle school our seventh grade did outstanding,” district superintendent Jeff Koenig said, adding that the eighth grade had made an increase as well. Grade seven tested at nearly double the proficiency of three years ago, with 73.6 percent proficiency in math compared to 53.1 percent in 2024 to 2025. Eighth grade posted a six percent increase in those meeting advanced math in 2026 compared to a year previous, while social studies posted a two percent gain to come out at 61 percent advanced or meeting expectations in 2026.
As for high school, test results show pre-ACT scores have grown in all ares over the last three years, with science up 21 points since immediate post-COVID era. Reading up 14 points and English painting its place, while math has increased seven points since 2021 to 2022.
