Council rejects two library change orders, approves third

Meeting Thursday, July 9 at a special meeting in city hall, the Stanley Common Council rejected a change
order from Hoeft for acoustical tiles in the amount of $28,154.28. Library Director Elizabeth Miniatt said the
library board recommended rejection of library change order 17 as the information had been available in
original bid documents, but not included in the bid by Hoeft.
“If something is called for the bid, you must bid on it,” she said. ”Since they omitted it, this change order
should not be conducted.” Hoeft had stated that its subcontractor had failed to bid on the item in requesting the
change order.
Also rejected by the council on Thursday was library change order 21 in the amount of $3,208.90 for installation of garbage disposals at two sinks. Miniatt said the library board recommended rejection because the work was optional rather than essential, numerous previous and anticipated change orders had already increased project costs, and the library board had conducted that garbage disposals were not necessary.
“The library board doesn’t want to approve this amount and believe that garbage disposals are not necessary,”
she said. Approved in the Thursday special meeting meanwhile was Change Order 20 involving $3,133.73 for light
fixtures, approved on the condition that it pend a credit verification for sending back trims that didn’t work and
getting a credit for this. The items on the Thursday agenda were addressed in a special council meeting as their approval or disapproval had not been listed on the Monday agenda and it was necessary to give notice with a new agenda in order to
formally approve the items.
Stanley Common Council meetings are held regularly on the first and third Monday of each month in city hall. The public is welcome to attend.
