The Orioles met Fall Creek at Oriole Park on Friday, Sept. 11, coming away with a 39-14 loss. Scoring touchdowns for the Orioles Friday were Oliver Hatfield and Max Acker, with Jesse Allard adding two field goal points.
Coach Brody Mahr shared more after the game.
“I thought our guys played hard, and the game was much closer than the final score indicated,” he said. “We challenged them all week to come out and play a physical brand of football, and I thought we were the more physical team for much of the first half.
“The biggest thing for us is learning how to finish drives and continue competing when adversity hits. We had opportunities in the red zone that we didn’t capitalize on, and a couple of costly turnovers and penalties really hurt us. We also gave up a few big plays, and we have to get better at putting those plays behind us and responding on the next snap.
“There were definitely positives to build on. Our effort and physicality were better, but now we need to become a team that can maintain that for four quarters and keep fighting when things don’t go our way.”
Overall team leaders this season for statistics this season include Porter Goettl with 513 passing yards, and three touchdowns Max Acker with 269 rushing yards and three touchdowns, Josiah Demske with 249 receiving yards, and Jesse Allard with 40 tackles and two interceptions.
The Orioles now face Mondovi at Mondovi High School on Friday, Sept. 18. Game start is 7:00 p.m.
