Varsity baseball starts season Friday at Durand-Arkansaw

With Oriole varsity baseball due to kick off Friday, March 31 with a game at Durand-Arkansaw, Orioles varsity baseball coach Ryan Sturm shared some thoughts on the season, as well as his coaching philosophy.

“This is my 3rd season coaching in Stanley,” he said. “My coaching philosophy is number one to help my players grow and mature as men as well as become the best baseball players they can be. I want them to master the basic fundamentals so making the routine play becomes easy in the game.  One team goal is to start winning the "close games.”  Most of our losses last year were within 1 or 2 runs.  Another goal is for our players to have fun and enjoy the season.”

As to what happens if some games need to be played at Chapman Park, Sturm said the following.

“Our players do enjoy playing games at Chapman Park. They have a lot of fond memories from playing there in the youth league.  We are looking forward to getting back to Oriole Park in the near future because it is a great place to play games.”
