It wasn’t the outcome hoped for at Stout Friday, but then the season isn’t over yet either. Coming off a loss of 55 – 48 to the Somerset Spartans December 7 and with a varsity game against Cadott postponed from December 9 to December 14, the Stanley-Boyd boys varsity took on the Spring Valley Cardinals at UW-Stout, with Spring Valley the ultimate victor for the night, 75-60.

A good portion of the dis- parity in final point spread was due to fouls, with 17 total for Stanley-Boyd compared to just nine for Spring Valley. The Cardinals, meanwhile, scored 14 free throw points against Stanley-Boyd, after an initial lead by the Orioles fizzled out to a loss.

As to the point spread on the Orioles end Saturday, Henry Hoel led the team overall with 16 points, including seven two-pointers and two free throws.

Following Hoel was Lucas Smith with 13 points, of which five were two-pointers and one a three-pointer.

Close on the heels of Smith was Carsen Hause with 12 points overall on Saturday, four two-pointers and four free throws.

Coming in with eight points a piece were Landon Karlen and Brady Potaczek, while Cooper Nichols scored two and Dominic Raffetto scored one.

Looking ahead from Stout to the near future, the Oriole boys varsity is scheduled to play Thorp at Thorp this Friday, with a game against Bloomer Tuesday December 21 followed by one against St. Croix Central December 23.

Unless of course, they get snowed out—but we won’t speculate further on that. Go Orioles!
