Football season will soon be upon Stanley-Boyd and its neighbors, with a scrimmage August 13 at Oriole Park followed by the first game August 20 versus the Cadott Hornets, at Cadott. With seven seniors, seven juniors, and a large body of underclassmen, the Stanley-Boyd Oriole’s football team, is ready to roll. Head Coach Jeff Koenig recently shared some thoughts on the upcoming season and team play in general.

Speaking of opponents, Koenig mentioned Cadott and also said that Marathon following after would be a challenge. But that’s not all football is about.

“It’s less important to be where they’re at than working to be where they should be,” Koenig shared of his approach to coaching. While many wanted to be a varsity starter as soon as they made it to high school, Koenig said instead that they should sometimes be willing to put in time on the JV and C-team, “knowing they’ll get better.”

“Some players do good right away and some don’t shine until senior year,” he said. With the scrimmage August 13 at Oriole Park giving a chance to see Stanley-Boyd in action, football isn’t the only sport to watch this fall. August 13 will also see a girls Varsity Golf Invitational at Trapp River Golf Course, beginning at 10 am.

The first day of varsity volleyball practice, meanwhile, will be August 16, also the first day of practice for middle school and varsity Cross Country. With many sports to watch, readers can stay up to date at the school’s website, while the kickoff against Cadott will take place this August 20 at Cadott, at 7:00 p.m.
