Headed fast towards playoffs, the Oriole girls varsity softball team scored four wins this past week, including two wins against Regis (11-7 and 11-10), Bloomer 8-7, and McDonell Central. (13-3). Orioles Head Coach Kim Goettl shared thoughts after the results.
“The softball team is hitting its stride at the right time,” she said. “We knew we would have some tough competition with Bloomer and McDonell. Bloomer had us the first time we saw them but we knew we had some changes in our line-up and this time we were back to our normal rotation. I’m so proud how the entire team stayed focused on the game and never gave up even when Bloomer came back and was ahead by 2 runs in the 7th. Everyone contributed to the win. The game against McDonell was heightened by all the cameras, media, and track meet crowd. Once we scored we never looked back. We took them in 6 innings.”
Now with a 14-4 overall record, the Orioles face Osseo-Fairchild Thursday at Stanley-Boyd before playing Saint Croix Central Monday, also at home.
Game start for both games is 5:00 p.m.
