Dear Nona: Are you going to get the vaccine? I overheard Wally with the Toupee telling folks at the lunch counter not to get it. What should we do?
Worried Because of Wally Dear Wally Worrier: Don’t waste your time concerning yourself. I know that they already put an asterisk on the calendar for Senior Card Day for the months of January and February, meaning they’ll cancel it when the shot comes to town!
Walter has been telling folks to not get the shot because he thinks somebody planted something in the vaccine that’s going to control our minds. Someone really needs to control his!
It’s not like his hair is going to fall out. That happened years ago, only he refused to admit it. There’s a debate going on in town if that’s a toupee or roadkill on top of his dome.
Anyway, I heard that there’s big plans in town that they want to make sure they can get everyone vaccinated at the same time, so the Western Taylor County Public Health Department and Bait Shop decided to put a mobile clinic on the ice of Loch Lublin. Since there hasn’t been a pandemic in a while, and the nurses were sick of the weekly toenail clinics, they decided to get into the bait business.
So, they’re going to kill two birds – and one nasty virus – with one stone. Keep your eye open to mark your calendar for the Loch Lublin Ice Fishing Contest and Vaccine Clinic. They’re waiting to see when the vaccine makes its way to Taylor County, and they’re hoping for a hard freeze before that day.
And quit listening to Wally! He’s still jittery about the time he got hypnotized to stop smoking. It didnt’ take, but he voted Democrat three elections in a row before someone snapped their fingers and brought him out of it.
Here are some fun, easy and tasty treats!
5-Ingredient Peppermint Bark Ingredients 8 ounces high-quality semisweet chocolate, broken into pieces 2 teaspoons canola oil, divided
Zi teaspoon peppermint extract, divided 8 ounces high-quality white chocolate, broken into pieces 25 peppermint candies, crushed Directions
Lightly grease a 9×9 inch pan and line with waxed paper, smoothing out wrinkles; set aside.
Place the semisweet chocolate and 1 teaspoon of the canola oil in the top of a double boiler over just barely simmering water, stirring frequently and scraping down the sides with a rubber spatula to avoid scorching. When the chocolate is melted, stir in 1/4 teaspoon of the peppermint extract. Pour the melted chocolate into the prepared pan, and spread evenly over the bottom of the pan. Sprinkle half of the crushed peppermints over the chocolate layer. Refrigerate until completely hardened, about 1 hour.
Place the white chocolate and the remaining 1 teaspoon canola oil in the top of a double boiler over just barely simmering water, stirring frequently and scraping down the sides with a rubber spatula to avoid scorching. When the chocolate is melted, stir in the remaining 1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract. Pour the white chocolate directly over the semisweet chocolate layer; spread evenly. Sprinkle the remaining crushed candy over the top and gently press in. Refrigerate until completely hardened. Remove from pan; break into small pieces to serve.
