The Oriole boy golf season is winding down.
Orioles head varsity golf coach Devon Wenndt reflected Monday on how things have gone and what lies ahead.
“Really proud of how they have improved over the course of the season,” he said. “A second place finish at the Conference Championship at Skyline in Black River Falls on Tuesday, May 19 wasn’t quite enough to get us to a runner-up finish in the season-long standings, but it certainly lent credence to the narrative that Coach Larry Norrell and I have been preaching all year...1% better every day, and focus only on what you can control. Our goal was to be in the hunt for a conference title, and we were absolutely in the thick of things right up until the final putt was holed. Two S-B golfers received All-Conference recognition (Carsen Woodcock, second Team, and Brenner Meyers, (Honorable Mention). We now face a tough regional at Trempealeau Mountain on Tuesday, May 26. The top four teams and top four individuals from the rest of the teams will make their way to next week’s WIAA Sectional in Spooner. As always, it will come down to how well we limit our mistakes...no penalty balls, no playing hockey around the green, etc. If they play like they did a week ago, I like our chances.”
