Administrator terminated by city

It’s been three weeks. So was city Administrator Nicole Pilgrim terminated or did she resign?
“She was terminated,” Mayor Mike Henke said Monday. “She never turned in her letter of resignation.”
The news brought to Henke from city law firm Weld Riley means that Pilgrim is out, after the city council voted in a special meeting March 4 to give the city administrator 21 days to resign or be terminated.
Pilgrim originally came to the city in late December 2020 as Nicole Thiel, replacing Donelle Spaulding as clerk/treasurer. Pilgrim’s termination comes as the city faced high turnover among employees over the last six months, with some departing employees pointing to administration as the reason they left. Pilgrim was put on an improvement plan by the council last fall.
The city has not appointed an official replacement for the administrator post, with Deputy Clerk Maggie Wurst taking the lead at city hall in the meantime.
