With a 5-1 vote in favor, the Cadott Village Board, approved a Conditional Use Permit for Dee Wells of Withee, to construct an A& W Restaurant in Cadott. The new restaurant will be located near Highway 29, just south of the Citizens State Bank drive-up. At a public hearing held prior to the vote, neighbors of the loca tion and a village business, that sells ice cream, had questions or spoke against the Conditional Use Permit being issued. +++ Ca- dott Village Board President Anson Albarado, presented retiring Cadott Police Chief Louis Eslinger with a plaque recognizing his years of service. Albarado also wished Chief Eslinger well and thanked him for all he has done for the village.

There was excitement in Thorp on Monday, May 2, when a bear was spotted up in a pine tree located on the corner of Lincoln and School Streets. +++ It has been announced that those donating blood in Thorp on June 21 and 22, will not be required to wear face masks. The American Red Cross has updated its pandemic safety protocols, which now includes that face masks are no longer required at blood drives and donation centers.

If your looking for a quiet get away, at a 1950’s style resort, one is opening near New Auburn. Clear Lake Resort, established in 1942, is under new ownership. Patrick Young and Aime Miki bought the property in July 2019. Young worked for the pre – vious owners, Allen and Sandra Seilheimer's. In the past two years, the resort became a family project, with their family and relatives helping with maintenance and upkeep. There are now four cabins and one bar on location. Cabins encourage time away from electronics to relax by the campfire, fish ou the dock and to really bond with the family. There is no TV or Wi-Fi in the cabins that sleep up to six. The ovcial opening was May 6, 2022. +++ On Saturday, April 22, two Bloomer High School students competed in an automotive skills contest sponsored by Universal Technical Institute at Menasha High School. Cody Fleming and Isaac Welle, took first place and won a Snap On tool box for the Bloomer High School. Each of them also received a $10,000 scholarship to UTI.

On Monday, May 2, The She Shed Reflexology held a grand opening/ribbon cutting at a downtown Withee location. The owner is Tonya Conger. Reflexology is a protocol of manual techniques applied to specific reflex areas that are found pri – marily on the feet and hands. +++ A Clark County Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 30, collected approximately 255.5 pounds of drugs including 45.8 pounds in Owen and Greenwood, 48.6 pounds in Neillsville, 10.2 pounds in Loyal, 36.8 pounds in Abbotsford, and 114.3 pounds at the Sheriu's Ovce. Per an estimate, the proposed concession stand upgrade, at Red Arrow Park in Abbotsford, will be $300,000. With $120,000 of the needed funding on hand, an additional $180,000 will hope fully be raised through a public campaign. +++ It’s between Col- by Metal Inc. and Custom Fabricating & Repair of Marshfield, as to whom is named winner of the 33rd Annual Manufacturer of the Year Award. Both companies will be celebrated and the winner revealed on May19, at the Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee. The Sentinel & Rural News

Two Owen businesses are asking to be issued a Class B Liquor License, that will be available due to the sale of the Thirsty Squirrel, a restaurant, tavern and banquet hall. One Shot, LLC is purchasing the business and the new owners have given it a new name. They feel that according to State Statues, the license can be transferred to the new business. The other business asking for the license is the Red Daisy Girl, a downtown business that currently has only a license to sell beer. The Owen City Council will make a decision at their next meeting and will be seeking advice from the city attorney before that meeting.

The Neillsville School Board approved purchasing a 2023 Blue Bird Vision bus from Wisconsin Bus Sales for $98,745 and a 2023 IC-International bus from Mid-State Truck for $99,100. The Board also approved multiple facilities projects including removing and replacing five elementary hand washing sinks for $37,490, replacing flooring in 10 middle school classrooms for $71,635.38 and replacing flooring in the middle school library for $48,008.54. +++ The Neillsville City Council is exploring a stronger nuisance ordinance to help the city health ovcer deal with bed bugs, cockroaches and stray cats. +++ A memori – al sculpture project is underway at the Neillsville Cemetery. A non-profit organization, Smiling for Samuel, plans to eventually install a sculpture entitled, “I Knew You in the Womb,” which will feature an angel weeping over an empty cradle. The sculpture is intended to provide a place to grieve for parents who have suuered any type of infant or child loss.

On Thursday, April 28, the Fall Creek Area Fire Department and EMT personnel participated in a mock prom car crash in front of the Fall Creek High School student body. The enactment occurred before the weekend of the Fall Creek prom, in an euort to open the eyes to the realities of drinking and driving either at prom, or any other springtime celebrations. +++ There was a lot of love shown by many local people, to the people of the Ukraine, during a recent drive to ship emergency supplies to the Ukraine. As a thanks to those caring people, Valentyna Pavsyukova, the founder of the Chalice of Mercy, recently held an appreciation supper for them at St. Joseph’s Church in Fairview (near Fairchild).

Buualo County Sheriu Mike Schmidtknecht is not running for re-election in November. He plans to retire when his term ends on January 1. He has served as county sheriu for the past 16 years and will conclude his law enforcement career with more than 41 years of police service. +++ Believing the Mondovi Pub lic Library is “ .. not just a library – it’s an asset for everybody,” Ed and Shirley Mahlum will be matching community giving up to $100,000.” The announcement came as a new chapter in the Mondovi Public Library's euort to fund raise for a new larger li – brary facility. This donation is in addition to the Mahlum's initial $150,000 donation that helped kick building fund raising euorts into high gear in 2018, and was in addition to the donation of the lot next to the current library.
