Cadott School Board to hold listening session on library policy

On Monday, June 27, the Cadott School School Board will be holding a listening session on the draft updates to the district’s library policy. The draft policy includes an opt out form, which would allow parents and guardians to designate that their child can only read in their reading level span, or not allow their child to check out certain materials by title.+++ After experiencing some damage to the Cadott school library, security cameras have been installed. +++ The Cadott School Board has a new President, Cory LaNou. Others elected were, Becca Blanchette, Vice -President, Christine Rowe, Clerk and Kevin Roshell, Treasurer.

+++ On April 20, Lake Holcombe senior, Brooke Lechleitner, signed to become a Division 1 basketball player at Central Con- necticut State. Brooke is the first Lake Holcombe Chieftain to reach the Division 1 level in basketball. +++ The Cornell City Council will be seeking information on the legality of it putting money behind building new housing in Cornell and entering into a build and sell relationship with a private contractor and realtor.

+++ Established in 2010, the Cornell Community Seedling Fund, has sat dominant since beginning with a $5,000 city donation and $5,000 from Northwestern Bank. Established through the Community Foundation of Chippewa County, the fund must reach the $25,000 endowed level, before it produces annual funds for use in the community. +++ Leslie Boileau ovcially became Cadott's postmaster March 12. During her 18 years with the postal ser- vice, she has worked in many area post ovces, but Cadott was her goal as postmaster.

Thorp’s business district has a new tenant. Bar BK Leatherworks has located at 101W. Prospect Street, next to Mathison’s Realty. On Friday, April 22, a ribbon cutting ceremony and grand opening was held at its new location. +++ N. Washington Street in Thorp, also has a new business known as Healthy Healing Horizons. The owner, Nikki Karen, a Greenwood native, ouers a large variety of vitamins, minerals and supplements. The operator is able to perform a biocommunication scan, which scans your body and identifies imbalances and then she uses herbs, oils, supplements and services to help bring things back into balance.

The community of Bloomer has been growing with several new businesses in the past several months. Main Street will soon have Pitch and Swing join the business community. Justin and Kayla Kunsman recently purchased the building that housed A Secret Garden and Bloomer Appliance. A Secret Garden will continue operating, but the space occupied by Bloomer Appliance will become the Pitch and Swing location. The new business will provide space for youth players to practice. To begin with, the space will be based around softball and baseball. If space permits, they hope to expand to ouer an area to practice tennis and volleyball techniques as well. There will also be space utilized for speed and agility training. +++ On Friday morning April 22, travc in Bloomer was moving a little slower due to the Bloomer High School FFA holding their annual "Drive Your Tractor To School Day. +++ The Annual Bloomer Community Picnic will be held on Thursday, June 2, with serving from 3:30 to 6:30 pm. All tickets are presale this year at $6 per meal. The meal includes ¼ chicken or a footlong hot dog, potato salad, baked beans, coleslaw, bread and ice cream.

On April 23, after 53 years, Larry and Diane Herington held their final Customer Appreciation Open House at Tri-County Equipment. On April 21, the business was ovcially sold to El mer Burkholder and Wesley Rissler. Tri-County sold and serviced silo equipment for Janesway and later Patz. The company eventually expanded to other equipment lines including snow removal, lawn and garden. The new owners hope to add more lines as time goes on, including a compact line of small tractors.

+++ The Owen-Withee School District is having another of its longtime teachers retire. After 38 years of service, Debra Smith, will retire at the end of this school year. Smith was an English/ Language Arts teacher.

The Clark County Press

The Neillsville Improvement Corporation and the Opelt family are hosting a groundbreaking ceremony on May 9 at 5:30 pm, to celebrate the start of construction on a community project.

The project will include a trailhead complex with a playground dedicated to the Opelt family and the first seven-tenth of a mile of the O’Neil Creek Trail. The long-term goal is to put in a 13 mile non-motorized recreational trail from Neillsville through Granton to Chili. The trail will follow a former railroad bed. The trailhead project will include a large playground, adult fitness stations, a wheelchair glider, swing, fishing pier, kayak launch, pavilion/warming shack, restrooms, picnic tables, benches, bike racks and waste receptacles. The total price tag for all elements is $317,950. With fundraising and a $30,000 grant $100,000 is on hand to get started.

Tri -County Area Times

Former Augusta mayor and city councilman Delton Thorson was honored on April 13, for his 14 years as mayor and two years as a councilman. An open house, with the presentation of a plaque, occurred before the city council meeting. Thorson served as Augusta mayor from 2006 to 2020. The former mayor assured well wishers he was not going away. He’ll still be at his law ovce on Lincoln Street, above the Augusta Memorial Library. +++ Governor Evers has signed a $5.96 million contract with Monarch Paving for resurfacing Hwy. 12, beginning on the east side of Fall Creek to the south junction of County X east of Augusta in Eau Claire County. The project is scheduled to begin May 2, with completion in late September, weather permitting.

Buualo County News

The Mondovi Public Library Capital Campaign, has now raised a little over $1.2 million, to construct a larger library next to the current facility. The plan is to break ground next spring for a facility with a community meeting room, areas for adult, teen and children’s materials, ADA compliant access and more.
