NEWS OF NOTE FROM OUR NEIGHBORS

Tri-County – Area Times

The York-Northfield Sportsman's Club Annual Venison Supper, held on November 17, received many fine compliments. Over 400 meals of steak, meatballs, mashed potatoes, corn, rutabagas and all the trimmings were served. As many as 40 people at one time were working to serve the great meal to their guests.

Trempealeau County Times

All five of the school districts in this newspapers coverage area “exceeded expectations “ on the DPI report cards. They are Inde- pendence, Whitehall, Arcadia, Blair-Taylor and Gale-Ettrick-Trem pealeau. +++ School enrollments are holding steady in the aforementioned school districts.

Enrollments for 2021 are: Arcadia 1,256, Independence 403, Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau 1,400, Whitehall 778, and Blair-Taylor 628.

Buffalo County News

The Buffalo County townships of Cross, Mondovi, and Naples have received grants totaling more than $4.8 million, that will expand broadband to underserved residents. The three grants, were among the 83 statewide funded with American Rescue Plan Act dollars. +++ Riverland Energy held a ribbon cutting to commemorate the completion of a new Stromland Solar project near Cochrane. The solar project will be maintained by grazing sheep to control grass and weeds. The 8,000 solar panels are expected to provide enough electricity to power approximately 550 homes.

For the Hixton United Methodist Church, their season ended October 31, 2021, when a final service was conducted before the doors were closed for good. At the conclusion of the service, mem- bers were each asked to ring the church bell one last time. A final dinner followed at the Legion Hall.
