While Trempealeau County has had a significant drop in the total number of new COVID cases, another death was re- ported. It was the 49th death from the disease in Trempealeau County since the pandemic began. +++ Arcadia Schools have gifted more than 3,000 of the districts old books, textbooks and reading resources to a nonprofit organization, Books for Africa. About 180 boxes filled with the books were delivered to the nonprofits St. Paul, MN office. Books for Africa has shipped 52 million books to Africa since 1988 and sent 3.1 million last year alone. +++ The Independence council members will meet with the city’s historical society to determine whether to accept the donation of the Methodist Church as a museum. The build ing has been offered to the city but with the stipulation that it only be used as a museum. The property owners have decided against selling the building and would consider converting it to apartments if it isn’t used as a museum.

As of October 1, Michael Stumpf has taken over sole proprietorship of newspapers serving a large region that spans from Eau Claire, Wisconsin to Rochester, Minnesota. Area newspapers included are the Durand Courier-Wedge, Buffalo County News and the Tri-County Area Times. +++ With 76 new student quarantines and 23 new positive cases for the week reported on Friday, October 1, the Mondovi Schools were up to 302 student quarantines and 73 positive cases since the beginning of the school year. On Thursday evening September 30, at a special meeting the Mondovi School Board voted 7-0 to reinstate a mask mandate for all students, staff and visitors. As of Monday, October 4, everyone was required to wear a face covering indoors during school.
