Of Wisconsin’s 72 counties, only 15 remain which haven’t been banned from baiting and feeding of deer due to rules associated with Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD). The counties, where baiting was still legal last week, included Douglas, Bayfield, Ashland, Iron, Sawyer, Rusk and Price in the Northern Forest Region. St. Croix, Pierce, Clark and Jackson Counties are still open to baiting in the farmland district as is Brown, Door, Kewaunee and Manitowoc in the northeast.
Locally a ban went into effect in Taylor County September 2021 after a farm raised deer was discovered to have CWD.
