The game, must go on—even if there’s a little snow outside. Convening in the high school gym Monday evening the Stanley- Boyd boys varsity played Marathon, the score 21 -29 at half before ending 78 – 51 in the Raider’s favor.

Taking on Bloomer at home as well earlier last week, the boys varsity put up a fight before losing by four points due to crucial turnovers. Orioles head coach Dakota Nichols shared his thoughts on Bloomer after the game.

“I thought the boys did a great job at playing team defense against Bloomer, specifically Schwarzenberger,” he said. “Our goal was to hold him to 20 pts, and we held him to 4. I’m really proud of them for stepping up to the challenge and executing the game plan. We had a few missed free throws and some crucial turnovers at the end of the game that ultimately costed us the win. However it was a big improvement from the last time we played them.” Now ranked fifth in the Western Cloverbelt with a 6 – 17 record overall, the Orioles face Spencer for the crossover this Friday Feb. 24 at home, the game moved for inclement weather.

As to the final score against Marathon on Monday, the lion’s share of points were made by Henry Hoel, sinking 4 two-pointers and 1 3 pointer in the first half, before going on to sink the same amount of each in the second.

Also contributing to the score board, Riley Weltzin made 2 two-pointers in the first half and one in the second, while Landen Karlen made a two-pointer in the first.

Logan Burzynski contributed a three-pointer to the overall point spread for the Orioles, while Haydn Gustafson sank a two-pointer and two free throws in the first, following this up with 2 three-pointers and 1 two-pointer in the second. Dylan Goebel made 2 two-pointers and 2 free throws in the second.

The Orioles play Wautoma at Wautoma for the regional on Tuesday, Feb. 28, the outcome determining the rest. Game start at Wautoma is 7 p.m.
