The Oriole boys golf season is coming to a fast finish. Competing at Trempealeau May 27, the Orioles placed sixth overall, individual player scores as follows:
Brenner Myers 90
Carsen Woodcock 77
Ryan Starck 91
Connor Goebel 96
Landen Fredrickson 87
Wenndt shared his thoughts on how things had gone.
“Carsen played an outstanding round of golf at Trempealeau Mountain earlier this week, which included a chip in eagle at the par 5 tenth hole. He managed his game very well, and was rewarded with an opportunity to play himself into the state finals. Hayward Golf Course, where the sectional round will be contested on Wednesday June 4, is a very different test of golf in comparison to Trempealeau Mountain. Players will need to be more precise with their shot placements, especially around the greens. The course will also play longer, stretching out over 6400 yards. Carsen certainly possesses the necessary length, so it will come down to how well he is controlling his golf ball and how many putts he is holing. I am extremely proud of him (and the rest of our team as well, who shot a season best 344 in their 5th place effort earlier this week), and look forward to watching him compete again.”
As for the season as a hole, Wenndt said players had made progress.
“I feel as though we are playing our best golf of the season at this point, which has been one of our goals all along…to be playing our best in time for postseason play,” Wenndt said. “We have measurably improved in several facets of the game, and have a chance to advance in the WIAA tournament series if we play well. Each and every player on the roster is better in at least one aspect of their game than they were at the beginning of the season, and I’m proud of the progress they have displayed.”
