Young readers are invited to dig into adventure, discovery, and imagination this summer as D.R. Moon Memorial Library launches its 2026 Summer Reading Program, “Unearth a Story!”
Designed to inspire a love of reading while keeping children engaged throughout the summer months, this year’s program features a prehistoric theme packed with hands-on activities, exciting events, and plenty of opportunities to explore the world of dinosaurs and beyond.
The summer fun officially begins on Monday, June 29, at 2:30 p.m. with a special presentation by The Mammoth Hunter, an interactive educational program that brings the Ice Age to life. Families will have the opportunity to learn about mammoths, prehistoric animals, fossils, and the fascinating creatures that once roamed the Earth.
In addition to the kickoff event, families can look forward to a full month of dinosaur-sized fun:
Families are encouraged to register for the Summer Reading Program and join the library as it embarks on a prehistoric journey through stories, science, and imagination. For information on registering for the program, tracking your reading minutes, activity participation, and prizes for our summer program visit https://stanleylibrary.org/summer-program. If you want to stay offline this summer, stop by the library or talk to library staff to get your paper log.
“The Summer Reading Program is one of our favorite times of the year because it combines literacy, creativity, and community engagement,” said library staff. “We hope families will join us as we travel back in time, discover amazing stories, and make unforgettable memories together.”
The Summer Reading Program is free to participate in and is open to children and families throughout the community. Reading challenges, special events, and themed activities will continue throughout the summer, helping young readers stay engaged and prevent summer learning loss while having fun along the way.
Dig up a good book and join the adventure—because this summer, it’s time to “Unearth a Story!”
