The Stanley Movie Theater hosted an Easter Free Show on Saturday, April 4. Sponsored by the Stanley Chamber of Commerce and Adam Smit Investment Management, the movie with free admission and a visit from the Easter Bunny afterwards had two showings, one at 10:30 a.m. and another at 1:30 p.m.
The movie this year was Hoppers’ by Disney and Pixar, rated PG and released last month. Hoppers follows an animal loving college student named Mabel (voiced by Piper Curda) as she ‘hops’ into the animal world via technology for research purposes. Able to suddenly understand animals, Mabel befriends a charismatic beaver king named King George (voiced by Bobby Moynihan) and rallies the animals to save their home.
Opposed by Mayor Jerry Generazzo (voiced by Jon Hamm) who wants to build in the animal’s habitat, Mabel and the animals band together to save nature. In the end the conflict is alleviated as a fire is put out by the beaver king’s choice to destroy a beaver dam and release water, which saves the city. The film, which was well attended at both showings, received clapping upon conclusion.
As for other features, the Stanley Theater is working on bringing Star Wars Baby Yoda, with summer dollar movies, Moana live action, and the Halloween and Santa free shows among theater offerings this year.
