Friday game forfeit by Orioles hands a Conference victory to Crickets team
It was a quiet game night at Fall Creek this past Friday, as the faceoff between the Stanley- Boyd Orioles and the Fall Creek Crickets was canceled due to a lack of eligible players for playing the game safely. Head Coach Jeff Koenig had more to share when reached for comment on the non-event from last Friday.
“We had to cancel the game because we did not have enough eligible players to safely play the game,” he said of last Friday night. “Thursday evening at practice we knew we would be short-handed for the game but thought we could safely play the game. By mid-day Friday, we had a few more players become unable to play so we had to cancel the game. I feel terrible for the players and their families because they work hard for these opportunities,” Koenig said.
Although enough players would have been eligible from the Oriole side to safely play the game Saturday, Fall Creek demurred on moving the date. Chalk this up as a victory for the team on Highway 12 in Eau Claire County. Crickets could be heard chirping at game time Friday.
Game play left much to be desired last Friday at Fall Creek, as an empty scoreboard (above) and empty stands (below) meant there was little to hear save chirping crickets, while the game itself was called in favor of Fall Creek, due to an Oriole forfeit. Photos by Joseph Back.
