Girls end season against Viroqua

The Oriole girls varsity finished their season Tuesday, Feb. 25, falling to Viroqua at home 29-32. Orioles Girls Basketball Head Coach Ryan Wundrow shared more after the results.
“We thought the game against Viroqua would be a close one,” he said. “We played some excellent defense and really frustrated some of their best offensive players. Stella and Lula Chwala did an amazing job on a girl that was averaging 22 a game. We held her to 16 and the rest of the team to 16 as well. We just didn’t make shots when we needed to and missed way too many free throws. We had lots of great looks just didn’t put enough in.”
“Overall we made progress from last year. We more than doubled our win total. We increased our per game point average by almost ten points and decreased our defensive points given up by almost 12 points per game. We were way more competitive every night we played and even out played some really good teams at times. I look forward to what the future brings for the program. I would like to thank our seniors Syleen Seichter, Aaliyah Allard, Kamryn Derks, and Lauren Potaczek. They were our most experienced players for two years. They did a great job of leading all our young players. They are great kids and I am excited for their futures after high school.”
As for individual player statistics, highlights from end of year statistics show Bailey Sikora leading the way with 45 three pointers, while for two pointers the distinction is shared by Kendall Sikora and Lula Chwala, Sikora with 65 overall for a percentage of 39.4 and Lula Chwala with nine of 15 for a percentage of 60 percent. Stella Chwala made 29.7 percent of her three point attempts, while Lauren Potaczek made 13 total.
Syleen Seichter led the team in rebounds with 187 total, while distinction on free throws went to Kendall Sikora with 43, followed by Aaliyah Allard with 28.
