The Oriole Track and Field team is running strong.
Competing at Stanley-Boyd Friday, May 9, the girls finished well. Macie LaGrander took first in the long jump with mark of 17-4, while Jocelyn Hager took fourth in the triple jump with mark of 32-1.75. Hager also took first in the 100 and 200 meter dash events with marks of 12.90 and 26.47 respectively, while Stella Chwala finished fifth in the 400 meter with a time of 1:06.11.
Other notable finishes for the girls from Stanley include Lula Chwala placing first in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles with marks of 17.55 and 48.58, while Stella Chwala placed fourth in the 300 meter hurdles with a mark of 53.61. The girls took first in the 4x100 meter relay at Stanley, finishing with a mark of 51.58, finishing the 4x800 meter relay in second with a time of 11:53.50.
That wasn’t the relay team’s only accomplishment, however.
The girls broke the 4x200 record,” Coach Bob Seidl said of competition earlier at Abbotsford with a finish time of 1:48.84. “Relays are our best events right now. We’re continuing to look at those.”
Looking ahead to conference meet, Seidl said there was a chance for the girls to win first place, with Fall Creek expected to be the biggest challenge.
“Fall Creek is toughest right now,” Seidl said for the competition.
As for the Oriole boys, they broke the school record in the 4x100 meter relay Stanley on Friday, finishing in 43.46. The boys relay finished third in the 4x400 meter really with a mark of 3:47.66.
“They’ve been getting better at some of the handoffs,” Coach Seidl said of the boys relay team.
Also in running events at Stanley, Madden Mahr placed first in the 100 meter dash with a mark of 11.18, Carson Hodowanic taking second with a mark of 11.64. Hodowanic also took second in the 200 meter dash as well with a mark of 23.31, while Deon Clingensmith placed first in the 400 meter dash with a mark of 55.10, while Caleb Westrom took second with a mark of 55.24. Lyric Lamson took fourth in the 3200 meter run at Stanley, finishing in 11:29.85. Cameron Natzke took fifth, finishing in 11:36.68
Field events are a growth opportunity.
“We’re doing well in the running events but the field events we’re not doing so well,” Coach Seidl said. A large part of this was due to caution related to injuries including hamstring, he said.
The Orioles head to Cadott Friday for a varsity invitational. Start time is 3:30 p.m.
