Hansen’s IGA has done it again, being named a 5-Star IGA Store for the eighth year in a row.

The store, located at 218 South Washington Street, obtained the distinction after scoring 99 out of 100 on an inspection carried out by a trained local shopper. Store manager Alex Zamarippa shared more of the accomplishment and how stores are scored to achieve this distinction.

“What they did is they had a checklist,” Zamarippa said of the store evaluator. Going around the location and taking around 100 pictures of different areas, the evaluator looked for things like cleanliness, friendliness, items in stock (including ad specials) and the entryway or appearance.

Already well run and managed when the present owners took over in 2016, Zamarippa said that employee teamwork went a long way to help the store achieve 5-Star status as well.

“It’s a  group of people from all walks of life that have come together as a family,” he said of the staff With career, part-time, and student employees all present on staff, community support was also important to achieving 5-Star status for the Stanley store.

“The Stanley area communities have strongly supported the IGA for a long time and continue to do so,” he said. “We’re really thankful.” And while employees are dedicated to serving customers day in and day out, receiving thanks also makes a difference.

“We receive a lot of thanks,” Zamarippa said of customers. “It means a lot.”
