Horticulture class builds city hall landscape project

City Hall has a new sign base, thanks to the Stanley-Boyd Horticulture class of Jordan Donnerbauer.
Working hard last week, class members could be seen putting down blocks and filling the enclosure with dirt. Donnerbauer shared more on how it all got started.
“The City asked if my Horticulture class would like a landscaping project,” he said. In class we spend time talking about landscape design so the students did the designing. They estimated the number of blocks and caps. Estimated the amount of mulch, and created the design on paper including plant locations, shape, of wall, and materials needed.”
The new retaining wall and plant display replaces an old wooden one made from landscape timbers. Block for the project comes from Rochester Block and cost $385, included with the city hall maintenance budget. Dirt was provided by the city from its dirt pile, which comes from Goettl Excavating. The plants to finish the project are from Reit’s Garden Center.
