It’s that time of the year when new leadership is elected by the Stanley Lions Club. Meeting at Debbie’s on Broadway on Monday, May 10, members of the Stanley Lions Club elected its new slate of officers that will be installed in June. Lions officers approved for 2021-22 were: President Jim Jones, First Vice-President Dave Jankoski, Second Vice-President Julina Lahner, Third Vice-President Dave Zschernitz, Secretary Lorena McLoone, Treasurer, Jerry Dirkes, Tail Twister Patrica Jankoski, Lion Tamer Mary Jo Winkler, Past President Jerry Dirkes, and the Board of Directors will consist of Dave Winkler, Larry Ciokiewicz, Carl Edwardson, and Gary Krueger. Club Historians Dave and Patrica Jankoski.

After calling the meeting to order, President Jerry Dirkes called for the secretary’s and treasurer’s reports which were presented and approved. Lions who helped with the Brat Feed at Moon Park were thanked and the report on the event indicated it was successful. Residents appreciated the meal and were delighted with the bingo games that followed. Several expressed happiness with the return of the brat/ bingo event after it needing to be canceled last year due to COVID. President Dirkes noted that the school was not doing a community cleanup this year, so the Lions will need to plan a Highway 29 cleanup. A donation by the Dean Boie Family resulted in the decision to place their memorial donation in the Scholarship Fund, where it will perpetually benefit Stanley-

Boyd graduates annually. Lion Boie was a 25 year member and a former member of the Stanley-Boyd School Board and his name will be added to the scholarship honorees. Dirkes also announced that the Cadott Lions Golf Tournament is scheduled for May 20 and anyone wishing to enter can contact him for registration information.

Fund raising endeavors supported included another IGA cookout featuring brats and pork chop sandwiches and selling cheese curds with the Rodeo Committee at Soo Park, with the date(s) of each still to be determined. Both these events were felt to have been successful last year and thus worthy of repeating. The 2021 scholarship applicants have been turned in and are in need of judging. Five Lions volunteered to do the judging of the goodly number of applicants for each scholarship. Lions who have been volunteering to drive patients marooned at the local hospital were commended for their service by the hospital administration. It was noted that the Thorp Lions are being invited to participate in this community service endeavor, if they are interested. In other news from the hospital, it was noted that a new general practice physician is due to begin providing services at the hospital clinic very soon and an orthopedic surgeon is now available to do surgery in Stanley. Before adjournment, it was announced that the June 14 meeting will be held at the new Stanley Community Building and the annual steak fry will include deceased members spouses. The attendance drawing resulted in Lion Lorena McLoone going home with the winnings.
