“We look forward to putting together some complete games this week all around and get hot as we enter tournament play this Thursday, at Durand 5pm,” Coach Tyler Wagner said of the varsity softball team’s hope as it moved towards the Thursday game at Durand.
With a win against Regis on Monday night 18 – 7, it might be said the varsity softball achieved its aim.
With the record now 2 – 14 after Monday’s win, the box score Monday showed Emme Felmlee with 5 RBIs, while Emily Brenner had four runs and also topped bases batted, at three.
As to pitching against Regis, the team’s three pitchers in Abby Reynolds, Taniele Ducommun and Emme Felmlee all got time in, with Reynolds pitching the majority of the game at 58 pitches, with nine for Felmlee and Ducommun. Keeping Regis sweating with no walks or home runs allowed throughout the game, the pitching record Monday was no accident, as Wagner explained.
“They have worked hard in their development to limit their walks, and throw strikes, while continuing to work on their pitches throughout the year,” he said of Reynolds and Felmlee. “I’m excited for their development over the summer and into next year.” In the meantime, Wagner said that Sierra Close had stepped in at third base and that Emily Brenner had started leading the team’s lineup, “ and continued to swing a good bat.”
As to the game play prior to Monday’s game against Regis, it wasn’t as encouraging, the Lady Orioles falling to Thorp in a Tuesday doubleheader and to Osseo-Fairchild Friday, the end score 11 -2 in Osseo-Fairchild’s favor.
The Orioles next play in a varsity regional tonight at Durand, the game beginning at 5 p.m.
