The Stanley Lions held their monthly meeting on July 12, at Debbie’s on Broadway. Under the direction of newly elected Lion President Jim Jones, all the events being held in conjunction with the Annual Watermelon Festival were reviewed and finalized. Two popular events will again be held this year. The cake walk will be held in the new Community Center Building and at 1:30 pm there will be Kid’s Games on the ballfield. Also finalized were the arrangements for the Brat and Pork Chop Sale at Hansen’s IGA on Friday, July 16. In advanced planning, work schedules for operating the Cheese Curd Sales at Soo Park on Thursday, August 12 and Friday, August 13 during the City Wide Thrift Sales were arranged. Any Lions who were not in attendance who could help on Friday, August 13 should contact Lion Jerry Dirkes.
Lion Dirkes reviewed the planning going into the Stanley Lions 75th Anniversary Celebration, that will be held on Saturday, September 18, at the Stanley Community Building at Chapman Park. The gala will include locally designed invitations going to Lions Clubs throughout District 27 E-1 and a few additional area Lions Clubs not in the district. Dirkes also presented his 2021-2022 comprehensive report, which indicates membership has been maintained at 34 members, with one non-renewal and one former member rejoining. Any additional community members willing to get involved, or interested in learning more about Lionism, are asked to talk to any Lion about membership. Lion Dirkes was applauded for his comprehensive report which included summarized financial information, historic data on the club’s finances, officers, and membership.
The Lions August Meeting will be held on August 9, at Fandry Park, with non-Lions who helped at the Watermelon Festival being invited guests. The Board of Directors will meet at 5 pm, social time begins at 5:30 pm and dinner will be served at 6 pm. Before adjourning, Lion Steve Millen’s name was drawn for the attendance award. He was not able to be present to collect the money, so the pot increases next month.
