Stanley-Boyd Archery Program Hits New Heights

Stanley-Boyd sophomore Macie Lukes has made a name for herself on the national archery stage. Competing at the 2025 NASP National Tournament in Louisville, Kentucky, Lukes earned an incredible 4th place finish among all high school female archers in the country. Her placement secured her a coveted spot at the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) 2025 Championship on June 5-7th in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where she’ll shoot for a substantial scholarship opportunity at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.
“When I found out I was 4th in the nation, there were lots of emotions going through my mind,” Lukes shared. “It is an indescribable feeling mixed between excitement and shock. I still get a little bit shaky thinking about it. But it was definitely worth every early morning.”
Lukes says archery has become more than just competition. “Archery is so much fun. Hitting a new PR (Personal Record) or just helping out the team is such a good feeling,” she said. “My next goal in archery is to be top ten in the nation every year going forward.”
She also shared how she prepares mentally before tournaments. “I mentally prepare for every archery tournament by listening to music. It helps me stay focused and envision how I will take every shot.”
Lukes’ success capped off a historic year for the Stanley-Boyd High School archery team, which earned its first-ever high school team award at Cashton, qualified for nearly every tournament in the 2024–2025 season, and brought home multiple individual medals and plaques. The team also surpassed their previous program record, raising their high score from 3034 to 3176.
“We have a great group of archers that are bound to do amazing things in the upcoming years. Our archers put in the work each morning at practice, and it is definitely showing,” said Archery Coach Brandy Pecha.
Not to be outdone, the middle school archery team had a breakthrough season of its own. The middle school squad ended its season as state runner-up and celebrated a historic first when Beau Ducommun was crowned the 2025 middle school boys’ state champion. In just its second year, the team qualified for Nationals and placed 29th out of 252 teams. At Nationals, the middle school team achieved an impressive feat by defeating the Wisconsin state champions, ultimately finishing as the highest-ranked Wisconsin school in the national standings.
This year’s high score of 3271 marked a nearly 200-point improvement over last season’s best of 3099. Participation has grown steadily as well—from 44 archers in 2023 to 56 in 2025.
“We have grown immensely over the last 2 years in numbers,” Pecha said.
Community support has been essential to the program’s success. The Stanley Sportsman’s Club has provided equipment, fundraising assistance, and reserved space for the team’s annual breakfast feed. The Rod & Gun Club made a generous donation that helped fund this year’s trip to Nationals.
“The season gets long, and the mornings are early,” Pecha added, “but watching the kids’ faces light up when they have accomplished something they have been working for is a feeling that is indescribable. We are absolutely blessed to be a part of these kids’ lives and archery journey.”
With momentum on their side, both the high school and middle school teams are already looking ahead to an even bigger 2025–2026 season.
