Starting as Decoration Day in the aftermath of the U.S. Civil War, the speaker at this year’s Memorial Day event will be Karen Hurd, currently the District 68 Wisconsin State Assembly Representative and a service veteran.

Captain Hurd served as the Military Intelligence Briefer to General Norman Schwartzkopf, commander of the 24th Infantry Division Mechanized which was the heavy arm of the Rapid Deployment Force during the Reagan Administration.  She also served as the Nuclear, Biological, Chemical Defense Warfare Officer for her battalion.

Captain Hurd received the Air Assault Badge, the Army Service Ribbon, and qualified as a Marksman with the M16A1 rifle during her time in service.

Currently, Karen continues her public service as Representative of the 68th District to the Wisconsin Assembly, representing citizens of Stanley, Cadott, and Boyd as well as most of Eau Claire County, the western half of Clark County, and the Southeast portion of Chippewa County.
