The Boyd-Edson-Delmar (BED) Fire Department has a powerful new tool in its mission to serve the community—a brand-new 2024 ambulance, fully equipped and ready for emergencies.
The new rig, which cost approximately $400,000 with all equipment included, features the latest in emergency medical technology, including a state-of-the-art self-loading stretcher system valued at $65,000. “We updated an ambulance that was 18 years old and was needing repairs more often. The new one is more reliable,” said Chief Patten. “The new self-loading cot should save Ambulance EMT’s and EMR’s injuries from loading heavier patients.”
The ambulance also showcases a sleek new look, thanks to custom lettering and decals by Ron Duncan of Ron’s Designs and Signs in Cadott, Wisconsin. It replaces a vehicle that had been in service for 18 years. The timing of the purchase was opportune. “The main reason we purchased a new ambulance at this time was because it was available right away,” Chief Patten explained. “We have another new ambulance coming in the fall of 2026. It was ordered about two years ago. The lead time to get a new ambulance is about three years.”
This new ambulance, along with the department’s upcoming purchase, is a testament to the ongoing commitment of the Boyd-Edson-Delmar Fire Department to provide top-quality emergency medical services for the community. With a total price tag of $325,000 for the vehicle itself, the investment reflects the department’s commitment to providing top-tier care and staying current with evolving emergency response needs.
