The Stanley-Boyd Lady Orioles have a new head basketball coach, following the departure of Alison Becker to teach at Altoona.
Taking Becker’s place as head coach for Stanley-Boyd Girls Basketball will be Ryan Wundrow. A coach for 25 years, Wundrow started as a middle school coach in Menomonie in 1998 and has coached a team—or sometimes two—every year since, except for the two years his family lived in Florida.
A first grade teacher with three children, Wundrow has been teaching for 23 years. His wife also teaches at Stanley-Boyd Elementary.
As to coaching, he is assisted by Jen Castellano, Tory Crank, and Matt Miklasz.
“Our core values are Integrity, Joy and Love,” he said of coaching philosophy. “We will serve and love our teammates and have fun together. We expect high effort and high energy no matter the circumstance. We expect to get better everyday.“
As to the season schedule, the Lady Orioles start their season with a varsity game Tuesday November 14 vs. Flambeau at Flambeau High School north of Gilman. The Lady Orioles then take on Barron Area Schools Friday November 17 at Stanley-Boyd, with game start at 7:15 p.m. Next playing Ladysmith at Stanley-Boyd on November 21 at 7:15 p.m., the season extends to February, its outcome remaining to be seen.
