Faith E. Free Church will be hosting a seminar on mental illness Saturday April 30th from 9 a.m .to Noon. Serious mental illness affects 1 in 20 adults in the U.S., according to the National Alliance on Mentally Illness, an advocacy group for those who suffer with mental health issues. Many who suffer from mental illness turn to self-medicating with drugs and other means as a way to selfcope. Contrary to a popular conception, mental illness is far more likely to destabilize someone than cause them to be violent.

Although not connected with the NAMI organization herself, mental health provider Stephanie Hurlburt will be coming to speak at Faith Free during a seminar planned for April 30. Stephanie is from the Eau Claire area and specializes in treating trauma. Graduating from the University of Northern Iowa with a Masters of Social work degree in 2019, Stephanie currently works as a Mental Health Therapist at the Clinic for Christian Counseling.

Those interested in attending the April 30 seminar may call the church office at 715– 644-2001 or send an email to [email protected]

Among the topics to be covered at the seminar are the following: • Necessity of a Biblical world view when approaching mental health issues.

• Causes contributing to the mental health crisis

• Practical ways to help on the front end in preventing or lessening negative influ ences

• How to support those in both the battle with personal mental health issues and parents, caretakers and friends.

• Resources available to help those struggling • Specific ways our church es can help.

Once again, the seminar is planned for Saturday April 30 from 9 a.m. to Noon at Faith E. Free in Stanley, being designed for all.
