The Oriole boys varsity met Regis at Stanley-Boyd Thursday, Jan. 16, coming away with a 58-43 win. Leading Orioles point scorers for the game with Regis were Charlie Hoel at 14 points and Logan Gray with 11. Brenner Myers contributed 9 points while Josiah Demske and Carter Isenberger scored 8 each, Jackson Gindt contributing 5 and Troy Haas making a three pointer.
Before game start meanwhile there was recognition, elaborated on by Coach Dakota Nichols.
“We decided to spotlight our fifth and sixth graders for all the hard work they have put in this season,” he said. “Having them help us with the starting lineups intro brings energy to the team, and a fun environment for the kids to remember. I hope to continue to build this program, and it starts with our youth. Also a special thank you to all of our youth coaches for making basketball fun and competitive for the kids to continue to develop as they get older.”
As for the game against Regis, Nichols said the defense stood out.
“Our defense really stood out to me in this game,” he said. “Regis is a good team that can light up the scoreboard. Our guys did a great job of closing out on shooters, and helping on drives. Communication was the best I’ve seen this year. Offensively, we had single digit turnovers and went 13-16 on free throws in the second half to close out the game. Right now we sit at second in the conference, still with a lot of room for improvement. We are focused on getting better every day, and taking the season one game at a time.”
Following their win against Regis the Orioles were scheduled to play Bloomer, but the game was rescheduled to Feb. 6 at Bloomer. Playing Medford in the interim they came up short, coming away with a 67-57 finish in the Raider’s favor.
Now with nine wins and five losses, the Orioles boys play Fall Creek at Fall Creek Thursday, Jan. 30. Game start is 5:45 p.m.
