The Oriole boys varsity headed to Neillsville Thursday, Feb. 26, pulling off a 67-63 win in overtime. The win marked the sixth in a row for the Orioles, now with a 20-3 record and ranked second in the Cloverbelt as playoffs loom.
The game at Neillsville Thursday saw Stanley-Boyd two points ahead at the half before adding another 37 in the second while Neillsville scored 39. With both teams tied 61-61 at the buzzer it was into overtime, with Stanley-Boyd scoring six points compared with two for Neillsville, bringing the final score 67-63.
Top point scorer Thursday was Charlie Hoel with 27 point, followed by Brenner Myers with 12, Troy Haas with nine, Josiah Demske with seven, Brayten Mallo with six, Micah Krajacic with three and Kaiden Parker with two.
Oriole boys varsity head basketball coach Dakota Nichols shared more on the overtime win.
“Despite the number of turnovers we had, I thought our kids did a great job of battling and just finding a way to win at the end,” he said. “This was a game full of momentum swings, but the boys held their composure and were able to execute under pressure. This was a good test for our team before the playoffs start next week.”
The Orioles play their first playoff game Friday, March 6 at Stanley-Boyd, facing off against the winner of the Adams-Friendship vs. Bloomer Regional from Tuesday, March, 3.
