The Stanley-Boyd Oriole track and Field team hosted a home meet Friday, April 25.
Competing at Medford days later, the Orioles came away with the boys team in third while the girls placed second.
Head Coach Bob Seidl shared more after results were in.
“This is the first time in eight years that we were able to host the late April track meet,” he said. “The weather always canceled our meet. On Friday it was cold and windy, but we were able to get the Meet completed."
As for results, the Oriole girls team took first place with 119 points, while the Oriole boys took fourth place with 64.5 points.
“The Girls team won the meet, edging out Owen-Withee by 5 1/2 points,” Seidl said.
“10 teams were at the meet. “
Placing first were Macie LaGrander in the long jump, the girls 4x200 meter relay team, and the Coed mixed 4x100 meter relay team.
“This was her personal best,” Seidl said of LaGrander’s long jump distance of 16 feet 10 1/4 inches. “She knows that she is close to qualifying for state, but it will take a good jump like the one on Friday to make it."
As for the 4x200 meter relay, they ran a time of 1:55, beating second place Gilman by 0.39 seconds.
"The 4x200 meter relay team also placed first which consisted of Macie LaGrander, Lula Chwala, Ady Gustafson, and Jocelyn Hager,” Seidl said. “They ran a 1:55. They are getting close to breaking the school record again with the addition of Jocelyn Hager. She has been a great addition to our squad. of sprinters."
The Coed mixed 4x100 relay team also placed first,”Seidl said. “This consisted of Caleb Natzke, Koraline Pennala, Maya Millirion, & Deon Clingensmith.”
No first place finishes were recorded for the boys team at Stanley. Among challenges for the Friday meet was a state competition in the FFA that same day, meaning a number of athletes were absent.
Weather was also a factor.
“Several athletes were scratched from their events due to the cold temperatures,” Seidl said. “Weather did play a factor and we did not have as many improvements as expected.”
As for Medford, the results were mixed.
"The boys placed third while the girls placed second,” Seidl said. “The weather was cool but the wind was not a big factor. We had a good Meet with some excellent performances.”
The best performances for S-B at Medford were as follows:
Carson Hodowanic - second in the 100 meter dash with a mark of 11.91.
