Now with a 1-9 record overall and 1-5 in conference, the Oriole varsity baseball team has had a rough season, though not without individual highlights.
Oriole Head Coach Ryan Sturm paid tribute to the team effort.
“Great group of young men,” he said. “They are a pleasure to work with. Our pitchers are struggling to throw strikes and when that happens our defense struggles due to long innings. We are getting a lot of players on base but we are not getting timely hits. Our focus on this season is to improve a little each day and compete when we play games.”
In terms of individual player stats, Alex Williams leads with a .360 batting average and .448 on base percentage. Jackson Gindt has three stolen bases, Trent Christoph a 2.55 earned run average, and Carter Weltzin a 1.0 fielding percentage. Williams leads the team with 9 hits, Gindt with six runs, and Weltzin with five runs batted in. Weltzin also leads the team slugging percentage stats with a .409, as well as doubles with three total.
The Orioles next play Regis Thursday at Oriole Park. Game start is 5:00 p.m.
