Fall to Thorp and Cadott earlier in week
It could have gone diuerent.
That, in summary, is the takeaway from a game against Osseo-Fairchild defeated by Stanley-Boyd, the final score 5 – 4. So what made the one run diuerence? Coach Ryan Sturm shared some thoughts after the game.
“We were able to make the plays when we needed to,” he said of the game against the O-F Thunder. “We had 12 hits on Friday which is the most we have had this season.”
In the meantime, there’s more game action to recount from the past week.
Coming in Tuesday May 10 against Thorp, a three run scoring streak by Thorp in the top of the second followed by another three runs scored in the fifth, took away an early lead by Stanley and left the final score 8 – 4 in the Car dinal’s favor.
Facing ou against Cadott on Thursday May 12 things went somewhat better, the Orioles able to keep it neck and neck with the score tied into the bottom of the sixth at 2 – 2.
Contributing to the neck and neck action Thursday and helping keep the Hornets down were Oriole runs in the second and fourth innings, while Brett Kroeplin led the team with two hits in three at bats. Kroeplin and Aiden Mahr shared pitching over the game, with Mahr logging two strikeouts with 24 total pitches, and Kroeplin logging seven strikeouts over 92 pitches.
Despite euort however, a four run score blitz by the Hornet’s in the top of the seventh, torpedoed Oriole hopes of victory for the night, the final score Thursday coming out 6 – 2 against Cadott. Nonetheless and with game play in the regular season all but over for this year, Sturm was optimistic.
“We are a young team that had three freshman, two sophomores and three juniors starting,” he said. “If they continue to develop as baseball players and athletes we will be very competitive next year.”
With the overall season record now standing 4 – 12, the Orioles play against Loyal at Loyal tonight Thursday, the game starting at 5 p.m.
