Otter Lake Fishing Contest Saturday

It was a cold day on Otter Lake when the Stanley Rod & Gun Club held their 22nd annual ice fishing contest Saturday, Jan. 20. With open water as recently as the Monday previous followed by subzero temperatures resulting in freeze over, contest registrants took the safe approach of pulling their gear on and off the ice by sled, no cars or trucks. The ice was estimated at five to 10 inches thick the day of competition.
Starting at 10:30 a.m. and going to 3 p.m., the contest saw fishing, a raffle, and food for sale, in the form of hot dogs and other goodies. Rod and Gun Club member Jerry Wink manned the weigh-in station, with most categories filled, save walleye.
That category had just one entry.
Making the official prize list for fish were the following:
Bluegill
1. Bryce Dallas - 0.58 lb.
2. Larry Konik 0.51 lb.
3. Laverne Zimmerman - 0.51 lb.
Crappie
1. Joshua Faber - 0.86 lb.
2. Kevin Christorf Sr. - 0.75 lb.
3. Blaise Treinen - 0.63 lb.
Perch
1. Keatton Breuch - 0.36 lb.
2. Zayne Johnson - 0.34 lb.
3. Kevin Christorf Sr. - 0.27 lb.
Bass
1. Bayli Christorf - 3.17 lbs.
2. Kevin Christorf - 2.83 lbs.
3. Jere Horst - 2.44 lbs.
Northern Pike
1. Jere Horst - 7.70 lbs.
2. Bryce Dallas - 4.45 lbs.
3. Chester Ernst - 2.22 lbs.
Walleye
1. Kevin Christorf - 3.10 lbs.
With door prizes also being drawn throughout the day, the names were written on a chalk board to alert attendees they had won and to pick up their prizes.
Door prizes for the contest were provided by area businesses including Hansen’s IGA, Bliss Salon, D & J Farm and Home, Hazuga’s True Value, LaGrander’s Dairy, Martino’s, Midway Bar, Marieke Gouda, Fast Lane Detailing, Stanley Tire Center, Stanley Truck Sales, Tolley’s Bowl and Bar, Thorp Supervalu, Village Haus of Boyd, Back 40, Cindy’s, Outboard Bar and Grill, Oemig Sports Shop, and Boondocks.
Towards the end of the day it was drawing and raffle time, with Morgan Huegli of Withee helping Dean Samuelson and Dan Liske with drawing tickets. Winners were to be notified by phone, the Rod and Gun Club having name and address for each ticket holder.
And with that, it was over until next year.
