Project Seed is coming to the local area soon, as the program meant to provide farmers with quality hybrids at a reasonable price is due to arrive at Holy Family School at 226 East Third Avenue this March 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Started locally by four-decade local farmer Paul Rozwadowski, the program sponsored by the Rural Life Committee of the La Crosse diocese offers several different products and prices, including hybrids that mature in just 84 days (PS 21-84 GT) with great early vigor and resistance to Roundup, Alton with the PS88-21, maturing in just 88 days with new genetics that allow for “very high yields.”
Also in the mix but far from exhaustive is PS 107-20, a 107 day hybrid that placed first out of 56 hybrids at the 2021 UW Yield Trials at Galesville and has a four year track record for high yields, along with being a high quality silage producer.
For those seeking a longer track record there’s the Project Seed Classic known as PS 94-C, which has “been around for 15 years because it works!" according to offi – cial seed listings.
Also in the mix for Project Seed are Alfalfa, Grass, and mixes, with the HDA 2300 LoLignin Alfalfa variety offering "improved fiber digestibility for more milk per ton of Alfalfa and a longer harvest window, along with what are deemed “extremely high yields. Many other varieties of Alfalfa and Grass mixes are available as well. For more information on products or to pre-order readers may call Scott Mohr at 608-769-2764 or Steve Mohr at 608-780-5460.
