Stanley-Boyd has a new mill rate for the school levy.
Passed at the regular October school board meeting with one member of the public in attendance, that mill rate is now $6.137 per $1,000 in assessed property value. The new mill rate represents a fall of 69 cents from last year’s rate or the second lowest mill rate since 2005, new rules at the state level allowing the district to receive $11,000 per student rather than $10,000.
Reassessed property values serve to adjust the percentage that each municipality pays into the district’s finances.
Of said percentages Stanley carries the largest share for 2024-25, accounting for roughly 29.5 percent of the total school tax levy. Stanley is followed by Colburn with 14.8 percent. Following Colburn is Delmar with approximately 13.1 percent, Edson with 12.9 percent, Thorp with 8.05 percent, Boyd with 7.48 percent, Worden with 6.84 percent, Wilson with 4.5 percent, Taft with 2.52 percent, and Butler with 0.05 percent.
Each municipalities’ share is based on property valuation, with Butler as it pertains to Stanley-Boyd representing a small part of the district.
As for the budget more generally, a summary breakdown shows $19,915,961.08 in revenues and $25,785,67.40 in expenses. The gap, which at first seems large, is explained in part by some $4.825 million in district savings in Fund 46 for capital improvement, after the elementary remodel came in under budget.
Holding on to too much of the savings would result in a low mill rate followed by a high mill rate, the district planning to undertake needed replacement of kitchen equipment as part of planned expenditures this year.
Total official enrollment this year for Stanley-Boyd in kindergarten through 12th grade stands at 1,014 pupils, with 53 in 4K.
